Environment
In recent years, the environment has moved to the very top of the world’s geopolitical agenda. Sustainable development – weaving together economic, social and environmental concerns and considerations – is now recognised as central to the future of humankind.
Global warming, pollution and waste, biodiversity, drought and flooding, destruction of rainforests, GM crops and renewable energy are among the key issues, with each of fundamental concern to every living thing on this planet.
At the University of Southampton, some of the finest minds on the international stage are working to find the right answers. The University leads research and works in partnership with business and academia in its quest. World-class facilities and equipment ensure that staff and students have the best tools for the job; little surprise that the University's environmental sciences degrees gained outstanding marks in the 2005 National Student Survey.
Much of the University’s work focuses on safeguarding and improving the world through engineering; finding scientific solutions to environmental problems. But whichever strands of research and study might appeal, students with drive and ambition are certain to find an outlet for their energies and talents at the University of Southampton.
